What is the Paleo Diet, anyway?
The Paleo diet is actually based on what prehistoric human might have eaten tens of thousands of years ago during the Paleolithic period. It is a natural, utterly-simple way of eating that promotes remarkable health benefits and weight loss results that you’ll never attain from any other diet, fad diet or weight loss programs you have or haven’t come across yet.
The Paleo diet focuses on lean meat, seafood, fruit, vegetables and nuts/seeds. It does not include any starch, sugar, dairy or beans. It also leaves out anything processed, refined or comes in a box/can.
This is the diet we’ve evolved to eat. It’s the diet we all should be eating.
These foods included in the Paleo diet – fresh fruits, vegetables, lean meats, seafood and nuts – are high in the beneficial nutrients such as soluble fiber, antioxidant vitamins, omega-3, monounsaturated fats, and low-glycemic carbohydrates that promote good health and are low in the nutrients such as refined sugars, saturated /trans fats, salt, high-glycemic carbohydrates that frequently may cause weight gain, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and other health problems.
The Paleo diet encourages people to replace grain and dairy products with fresh fruits, vegetables and nuts/seeds — foods that are more nutritious than grains and dairy products.
Now many nutrition scientists agree that it is a way of eating for best possible health. The reason behind this is because it follows the way our Paleolithic ancestors ate. Over a 2-million-year period, our genes adapted to a diet in which all food had to be fished, hunted or gathered from the natural environment. Though this kind of environment has changed significantly, the human genome has changed less than 0.02 % in the past 40,000 years. Therefore, most people eat a diet that is not in sync with their genetic needs, sooner or later they could end up with health problems that are for the most part preventable.
